Welcome to Wellness at Emerson, the College’s wellness initiative! Our objective is to help you to be happy, healthy, and productive in your work life and at home, and to help you increase your financial fitness and intellectual wellness, too! Detailed below, please see our list of wellness offerings for 2019.

Documents for Life: Wednesday, February 27 @ 12 pm

It is often difficult to discuss the future with aging parents and other older relatives. This seminar, provided by E4 Health, will guide you through the important discussions concerning your relative's health concerns, emotional issues, financial and legal issues, as well as housing options and support services at home and in their communities. 

The seminar will take place in the Human Resources Conference Room, 20 Park Plaza, 13th floor. 

Asthma Awareness & Management: Thursday, March 21 @ 12 pm

 Asthma affects more than 15 million people in the United States. This one-hour workshop, provided by Harvard Pilgrim, provides asthmatics and their families with the knowledge they need to help manage their disease and minimize its interference with their quality of life. This workshop will help participants to:

  • Control the things that trigger their asthma
  • Understand their medications and how to use them
  • Recognize early warning signs of an asthma flare-up and how to handle them
  • Become partners with their medical providers to gain control of their asthma
  • Manage their children's asthma using interactive educational tools

This workshop will take place in the Human Resources Conference Room, 20 Park Plaza, 13th Floor.

First Time Home Buyers Workshop: Thursday, March 28 @ 12 pm

At this workshop, a representative from The Mortgage Network will discuss the climate of the current real estate market, the mortgage process, including how and why to get pre-approved, and how to best position yourself for success in a competitive bidding environment.

The workshop will be held in the Human Resources Conference Room, 20 Park Plaza, 13th Floor.

A representative will also be on site, by appointment, on Thursday, April 4, for one-to-one sessions. At these sessions, you can get answers to your personal mortgage questions, as well as a quick prequalification analysis.

Resistance Training: Friday, April 12 @ 12 pm

Research has shown that strengthening exercises are both safe and effective for women and men of all ages, including those who are not in perfect health. In fact, people with health concerns - including heart disease or arthritis - often benefit the most from an exercise program that includes strength training a few times a week. Resistance bands offer an easy, low cost and effective way to add strength training to your exercise program. Participants in this workshop, provided by Harvard Pilgrim, will learn how to use a resistance band to perform basic exercises that will work the major muscles of the body.

This workshop will take place in the Bill Bordy Theater.

Eating for High Energy: Wednesday, April 24 @ 12 pm

Ever feel a little sluggish mid-afternoon? Tired of reaching for treats and coffee to maintain your energy? In this seminar, provided by Harvard Pilgrim, you will learn how your mitochondria affect your energy levels, what to eat to maintain high energy levels and other tips to keep you at your best all day! 

The seminar will take place in the Human Resources Conference Room, 20 Park Plaza, 13th Floor.

World's End Nature Walk: Friday, May 31

EmersonWalks will host a walking tour of World's End in Hingham on Friday, May 31 (time TBD). Regarded for the beauty of it's natural surroundings, this tour will be a great way to celebrate the summer! Registration will be on a first come basis to this event (limit 15 for tour). More information about this event will be provided in April.

Importance of Having a Will: Wednesday, September 18 @ 12 pm

You work hard for your money. As such, you should make sure your assets - financial and otherwise - are properly allocated after your death. There is much confusion about what you need to do to preserve your wealth and intentions. Participation in this seminar, provided by E4 Health, will foster an understanding of the components of a will, the process of preparing one, as well as what alternatives are available. 

This seminar will take place in the Human Resources Conference Room, 20 Park Plaza, 13th Floor. 

First Time Home Buyers Workshop: Monday, October 7 @ 12 pm

Bullying & Social Media: Thursday, October 10 @ 12 pm

As social media becomes more and more a part of our children's lives, how can we determine which platforms are age-appropriate and safe? This seminar, provided by E4 Health, will provide suggestions for protecting your children on social media, warning signs of cyber bullying and proactive strategies for monitoring your child's online activity.

This seminar will take place in the Human Resources Conference Room, 20 Park Plaza, 13th Floor.

E4 Health, Emerson’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP), offers a wide array of organizational development webinars designed to improve your personal and professional lives. These webinars offer an online virtual classroom for professional development, personal growth and health-related topics. Eligibility will be based on attendance at events.
