Summer Hours

Summer hours for 2023 begin May 19 and end August 18. This means that the official Friday work day will end at 3pm during this time.

  • Full-time staff are eligible for summer hours.

  • Eligible staff must work until two hours before the end of their regular workday on Fridays.

  • If you are out of the office for a full day on a Friday during summer hours, you must take a full vacation/sick/personal day.

  • Full-time staff working a schedule other than the regular business hours, or whose manager deems the department's operations will be disrupted by working modified summer hours, should speak with their manager directly to determine if an alternate option is available.

Entering Summer Hours in Workday

If you have questions about time entry for Summer Hours, please reach out to Payroll directly.

Exempt staff will not be required to enter the Early Release/Delayed Opening – Not Worked Time Type on their leave report.  Exempt staff should continue to report any time taken for vacation and personal leave as full or half days if they are out of the office on the modified summer day.

Non-exempt staff will report the 2 hours on their timesheet by selecting “Early release/Delayed Opening-Not Worked” under Time Type.  The modified summer scheduled hours do not count towards overtime. You are required to physically work more than 40 hours in a week before you are eligible for overtime pay. Staff will report vacation, personal and sick time as full days if you will be out of the office for the full day.

The following is an illustration of how non-exempt staff would record their time:
