Medical, Dental and Vision Plans Overview & Enrollment Information

The College offers eligible employees health, dental and vision plans.

Health Insurance Plans

Health insurance options are offered through Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
  • HP HMO

  • HP PPO

  • HP PPO Plus HSA (High Deductible Plan)

For a high-level comparison of the three medical plans see the:

2023 Medical Plans Benefits at a Glance

(Employees living outside of New England are eligible for the two PPO plans; not the HMO plan.)

Prescription Benefits

OptumRx provides prescription benefits for employees enrolled in health plans.

Dental Plan

Dental insurance is provided through Delta Dental of Massachusetts.

Vision Plan

Vison insurance is provided through EyeMed. Please note vision is only available to non-union staff and members of the police union as of 1/1/2022. The College will negotiate benefit offerings with other unions as required under labor law obligations.

Coverage Levels

For medical and dental, two coverage levels are available; individual or family coverage.

For vision, three coverage levels are available; individual, individual + 1, or family coverage.

Eligible dependents include:

  • Spouse
  • Qualified Dependent Children (eligible to age 26)
    • Unmarried natural children and stepchildren
    • Legally adopted children
    • Children whose coverage is required by a medical child support order

Enrollment in medical and dental plans is not automatic. Eligible employees may enroll on Workday when first hired or eligible (coverage effective on the first day of the month after the hire date or when newly eligible) or during the annual Open Enrollment period with an effective date of January 1. New hire employees have until the last day of the month of their initial eligibility period to enroll.

If you are newly eligible for health insurance at Emerson or are newly enrolled, see the Harvard Pilgrims Smart Start flyer.

To enroll at any other time during the year, an eligible employee must have a “change in family status” as defined by the IRS. See Qualifying Events - Benefit Changes for more information.
